Learn How to Tutor a 5-Year-Old
Learn How to Tutor a 5-Year-OldIf you have some time on your hands, you may find it interesting to learn how to tutor a 5-year-old. The main reason why parents choose to hire tutors is so that their children can benefit from the experience of being in a classroom environment. Sometimes the teacher is busy and the child will get extra help from another student or from a teacher that is familiar with the child. There are several advantages to the experience of having a student who is not of your own age. Many times a child will get the opportunity to see things that they would not be able to see otherwise. Also, children that will be less mature may be able to appreciate and even need help when it comes to completing a task or even learning about one's self.Teaching a child about the importance of trust can be very beneficial for both teacher and child. Children must learn that in order to trust you they must first be able to trust themselves. When it comes to children, trust is very im portant. They do not come with memories as adults do, and instead, they are made through experience.Trusting a child that has a fear of water can be a good thing to teach them. Most children that suffer from phobias usually have a fear of water. This fear is learned and can be easily overcome. However, teaching your child this fear will help them out on many different levels.A child with a fear of water may be less likely to be drowned in a pool. Some children have also been known to avoid going in pools altogether. It is possible that a child that fears water will not be afraid to swim and may not develop any swimming phobias. In addition, if a child will be taught how to swim, then he or she may be able to use that skill when it comes to dealing with a drowning situation.A child can also benefit from being in a classroom that is conducive to a positive learning experience. Children who do well in a traditional classroom setting are often those who do well because they are able to relate well with their peers. Although there may be other factors involved, most children tend to do better in a group setting than in an individual setting. When a child is able to socialize with peers, there is a greater chance that he or she will be able to perform better in a class. It is a fact that when children learn how to interact with their peers in a positive way, they will begin to learn how to do the same with others. This skill is not something that comes with the ability to speak a language and therefore they need to learn how to do it on their own. Learning how to be able to socialize can be very helpful.Taking the time to learn how to tutor a child is not hard to do. You can use your knowledge of the techniques that are used in a typical classroom. Of course, it would be better if you were to ask a parent or guardian if they would be willing to mentor the child. That way, you will have some experience that can serve you well when it comes to teaching children.

Chemistry Element Jokes: Some Basic Examples
Chemistry Element Jokes: Some Basic ExamplesChemistry element jokes are commonly used to draw laughs out of the audience. There are several different types of humor with elements that are based on chemistry. A chemist who is simply joking about chemistry can often be very funny, while an actual scientist may be easier to read. But chemistry element jokes can come from any range of people, including teachers, politicians, cartoonists, and scientists themselves. One of the most popular chemistry element jokes is one that was written by Walt Disney. During World War II, the United States Air Force had a computer program that could be programmed to figure out the atomic weight of each atom. It took the aid of this program to determine which weapons to produce based on the weight of a specific type of bomb. However, in most chemistry element jokes, the scientist or engineer who designed this program is made fun of. As an example, if the program was somehow damaged, a large part of it would have to be replaced. Although it is often said that this can only happen if the program is built from 'only parts that can be made by humans,' other versions of the joke might say that this can also happen if the person who wrote the program accidentally runs into a problem and then scrambles for a few moments to run the program again. Either way, the joke about how this program worked was a simple yet amusing one.Chemical elements are considered to be 'boring' when compared to their visual counterparts. However, element jokes are very simple and sometimes can even be said in such a way that it makes them seem more intriguing than they really are. For example, one element chemistry joke says that there are two kinds of matter in the universe - the cold ones and the hot ones. The cold ones can't be broken down or altered and cannot be turned into anything else.Another example of element jokes goes on to say that there are two different types of 'excitement.' One involves motion and t he other involve heat. Once again, these jokes focus on these two primary elements rather than the other four types of elements. One of the most famous chemistry element jokes is not so much a joke as it is a claim. When someone tells this joke, he or she claims that they will accomplish something in two minutes. But then, after they've done what they claimed, they do nothing to actually accomplish the goal.If you're curious about some of the chemistry element jokes that are common, one you can find is that a molecule that forms in a nuclear fusion process is classified as a 'more boring' one. A joke telling the same story also revolves around an element being known as 'one of the hottest new things to come out of India' but is then revealed that it's a gas in the form of a fairy dust. Of course, one joke goes into great detail about the chemistry element element man made out of clay, and another joke makes fun of how geologists classify all of the different minerals as igneous. But there are still a lot of jokes that focus on these four elements.

A Student Review of Pennsylvania State University
A Student Review of Pennsylvania State University Rebecca earned her bachelors degree in advertising from Pennsylvania State University. She specializes in Spanish tutoring, AP European history tutoring, and a number of other subjects. Below, she shares her experience at Pennsylvania State University: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Rebecca: Penn State is located in State College, PA. Its a rural setting, but it almost feels like a small city. The campus is very large, but seamlessly blends into the downtown. The two seem very integrated. I felt extremely safe at all hours of the day and night. The public bus transportation is great for the most part. A car may be needed for grocery shopping off campus, but its not necessary because the bus line does run there. A bike can be useful, too, if you live far off campus and need to get to class quickly. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Rebecca: I found the staff was very welcoming, helpful, and available as long as you were willing to put the time and effort into classes and your academic schedule. I met with countless professors to go over materials for class, worked with TAs to understand topics in larger classrooms, and worked with my academic adviser every semester to set myself up for success throughout my college career. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Rebecca: The dorms were typical of any campus: clean and average sized. I was in an all-freshman dorm, but some of my friends were in mixed grade level dorms. The dining options are excellent and have all types of cuisines, as well as the choice to dine in a hall or to take it with you. I was able to make a large assortment of friends on my dorm floor and building as a whole. We remained close throughout my college career. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Rebecca: Since the school is so massive, there are a large number of programs and schools of study to choose from. Penn State has an excellent law program, communication school, engineering program, and a well-known business school. I studied advertising in the College of Communications because I wanted to work as a creative or account executive at an agency. There were a lot of career and internship, as well as networking, opportunities within my college. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Rebecca: The majority of my friends as a freshman were from my dorm, classes, or clubs I joined. As a second-semester freshman, I joined a sorority and met more individuals through that. Greek life is significant at Penn State, but one can choose not to be in Greek life and still have a thriving social life through different organizations or groups of friends. How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services? Rebecca: The Career Center was very helpful. They had resume workshops, a database full of job listings, and rooms available for interviews by phone or Skype. Many reputable companies recruited at our many job fairs throughout the year. How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Rebecca: Since Penn State has such a large campus, its easy to find a study space that works for you. We have various libraries, as well as lounges or quiet corners around campus to study by yourself or meet with a group regarding a project. Describe the surrounding town. Rebecca: Despite the fact that Penn State is located in rural PA, the town of State College is thriving. Downtown, there are a large number of restaurants and cafes that cater to both students and locals. The downtown is also home to boutiques, shops, larger chain stores, and a local theater. One can always find something to do downtown. If one is looking for more things to do off-campus, there are more restaurants, shops, chain stores, bowling alleys, movie theaters, and large grocery stores. The campus and downtown are very close to each other, so students can easily access downtown amenities or go off-campus by a bus or walking. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Rebecca: The student body is quite big. The undergrad population is near 40,000. I loved having a large student body. There was so much to get involved in; you could always meet new people and everyone had so much school pride. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Rebecca: I took a sociology course that I heard was popular my senior year. The professor was kind of crazy, but made the experience extremely memorable. He was very hands-on and made the entire class of 700 people take part in hands-on activities. He also brought up and discussed many topics that are considered taboo or politically incorrect in todays society. Whether or not you agree with what he said, I guarantee that you will leave class mind-blown. Check out Rebeccas tutoring profile. However, there's a huge difference between a beginner who's never picked up a guitar and somebody who's been playing for a few weeks. You'll be surprised at how much you learn how to play guitar after a month of practising or working with a guitar teacher. The first time you pick up a guitar, it's going to be tricky. (Source: Couleur)To help you work out what level you have on the guitar, be it the acoustic guitar, jazz guitar, or the electric guitar, here are some of the different types of beginners.Absolute BeginnerBefore y ou start taking the online guitar classes, private guitar tutorials, or teaching yourself how to play the guitar, you'll have to start as an absolute beginner. You'll have never touched a guitar in your life, you won't know how to hold a plectrum, tune a guitar, or even coordinate your left and right hands. Online guitar lessons mightn't be ideal when you've never taken a single guitar lesson in your life. You may remain at this level for a long time depending on your musical capabilities. Some people remain absolute beginners for just a couple of weeks, especially if they have experience playing other musical instruments. It all depends on how much effort you put in.Of course, that's not all. Everybody's different when it comes to music. Some may already know how to read music or have a great ear for different notes. Others may require more time.As an absolute beginner, you learn how to make notes on the guitar, how to position your hands, and the right posture to adopt when you'r e playing. You'll notice very quickly just how much playing the guitar hurts your fingers when you first start playing.Don't worry, though, you'll get used to it. Even Steve Vai and Jimi Hendrix would have gone through this stage.BeginnerOnce you are no longer an absolute beginner who's never touched a guitar in their life, you'll have reached the stage of beginner. You'll have taken a few online classes, private tutorials, regular classes either in a group for on your own, or have spent some time teaching yourself. You'll be aware of some of the basic guitar techniques and know a few basic chords. You'll be able to play a few simple songs along to some music. While your timing mightn't be perfect and you still play a few wrong notes, you're getting there! You'll be aware of what you've got to do and where you need to go in order to master playing your instrument. You'll also know that you've got a long way to go.Play for a few friends and get feedback from them. (Source: Free-Photos)S easoned BeginnerThis is one of the more difficult levels to be atâ¦This is when a lot of players start to plateau. When you first learn to play guitar, you'll make a lot of progress in a short amount of time, start strumming some basic chords, and learn to find notes on the neck. This progression tends to make a guitar player overestimate their own abilities. The seasoned beginner isn't necessarily capable of any advanced techniques but they can play what they know quite well. They're able to play in time to music and have mastered all the basic chords. They'll be able to expand their repertoire by playing almost any basic song requested of them. They'll still be taking beginner guitar lessons and working on their rhythm, playing certain notes, and learning guitar basics. They may be able to even play and sing at the same time. At this point, you might even say they're good at the guitar. But they're not without fault. As a seasoned beginner, inconsistency is their biggest flaw. This means that while they're quite good at playing the guitar and they have a decent level, they'll still make mistakes. It doesn't matter whether you play the guitar for five, 10, or 15 years, it won't guarantee that you'll exceed the level of a seasoned beginner. If you constantly play basic songs and chord progressions, youâll always remain a seasoned a beginner. You need to be aware of your level and start looking to challenge yourself with more advanced techniques and more difficult songs.IntermediateNot everyone makes it to the intermediate stage. You arenât guaranteed to reach this stage just by practising for a few years. It depends on how you practice during this time. Your guitar instructor won't always be there to help you learn guitar or to teach you new techniques. If you attend a weekly guitar class but don't touch your guitar for the rest of the week, you'll remain a beginner much longer than somebody who practises a little bit every day.Playing guitar in a band could help your guitar playing. (Source: Free-Photos)Lower IntermediateThe lower intermediate follows the seasoned beginner. You're starting to explore the entire neck of the guitar. You familiar with the different notes and a bit of music theory. You play the songs you know well and you're familiar with concepts such as harmony.Your playing is more varied than that of a beginner and you integrate more complicated chords into your repertoire, which is broader than that of a beginner. You can comfortably sing whilst you play the guitar and you're even capable of basic solos and improvisation.Bit by bit, your ear is developing and you can play without needing to concentrate too hard. Playing the guitar is becoming more natural to you. However, you're still aware of everything that you still need to learn and you're not resting on your laurels. You keep working on your technique and have your sights set on achieving a higher level of playing.Maybe composing and improvising will help you rea ch that level.Upper IntermediateAt this point, you're far from being a beginner. You'll have a great understanding of several guitar techniques, know your way around the neck, and have a good ear for music. You'll be able to harmonise in real time and reproduce most of what you hear on the guitar without needing sheet music of guitar tablature.Additionally, your timing will be far tighter than that of the beginner.Since you'll have a good understanding of music theory for guitarists and a number of scales, you'll be able to improvise and compose your own music with greater ease. A Day in the Life at Michigan State University
A Day in the Life at Michigan State University The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teachtheyre sharing their college experiences as well. Ross is a Detroit tutor who earned his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 2010. He specializes in calculus tutoring, algebra tutoring, and several other areas of math. See what he had to say about his timeat Michigan State University: Describe the campus setting and transportation options at Michigan State University. Ross: The campus is safely closed in with all the dorm rooms and classes in a 20-minute-maximum walking distance from each other. On the outskirts of the campus is where you will find the campus apartments and restaurants. There are four transportation options on campus: driving, buses, biking, and walking. The buses take you all around campus but you have to know the schedule. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Ross: My professors were always available when I emailed or contacted them beforehand but they could also be reached by walk-in appointments. The Teaching Assistants always held review sessions which were very helpful to me during the tougher classes. I was a student athlete so my Academic Advisor was in the Smith Center, which is a student-athlete academic building for campus athletes. He was always available for me, probably due to the fact that he only dealt with athletes. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Ross: Dorm life at MSU was very pleasant because of my roommate. A huge part of the dorm life experience is your roommate. This can make or break your experience, regardless of the facilities and location. The dining rooms in the dorms were great even though some included better meal options than others. One of the best things about the dorms were the events that were held on the weekends which allowed students to get know their Resident Advisors and other students in the dorms. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported at Michigan State University? Ross: My major was Mechanical Engineering because I was a math guy. I love the design part of the engineering program. As far as support, the Engineering Department gave 100 percent support to the students and supplied us with a vast amount of resources for classes. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Ross: As previously stated, I played football during my tenure at MSU, so I socialized with mostly athletes my freshman year due to the fact that we were always around each other. Though I had a demanding football schedule, it wasnt difficult to meet new people because of campus activities. How helpful is the Career Center and other student support services? Ross: The Student Support services did an excellent job helping students get comfortable with writing resumes, looking for jobs, choosing careers after college, and speaking with companies. Companies often visited our campus at job fairs, as well as academic events held by departments. How are the various study areas such as libraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Ross: Our study areas were available and spacious when there were not final exams being taken. Each floor in the dorms had small conference rooms that could be used for studying. Also, the dorms had computer labs available for those who needed access to the web. The library and the student union were always available to meet up with friends to review for tests or to simply work on homework projects. Describe the surrounding town. Ross: Downtown East Lansing was a great place to enjoy your social life. The restaurants were very delicious and clean for friends and families, as well as local bars that showed sports events on the weekends. There was a mall not too far from campus that contained everything I needed. Multiple grocery stores were located no more than 15-20 minutes from the dorms. How big or small is the student body at Michigan State University? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Ross: Michigan States student body size is about 38,000. The class sizes were perfect for me. Some courses were taught in smaller high school-like classrooms while the larger classes that were taught in auditoriums. I enjoyed both settings because each gave students the opportunities to interact with the professor and other students. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one you regret the most. Ross: One memorable experience at MSU took place my sophomore year on the way to take a final. My roommate and I went to the wrong building for our final which made us late to the actual exam. When we arrived to the exam, after walking around campus for 15 minutes, it was jam-packed. The only available seats were two seats right next to each other and we ended up being the first two done, which was weird. We both ended up with a 3.0 in the course. Check out Ross tutoring profile.
